Dental Exams

During a visit our team will examine your pets oral health and recommend any necessary care, food or supplements to help ensure prolonged dental health. In some cases we may find teeth that show signs of problems, or inflamed gums. When we see these things our vet may recommend a full dental cleaning that may include extractions.

Other times the vet may note that your pets mouth looks good and just recommend a routine cleaning within a set amount of time. This is to help keep the teeth and gums healthy and try to prevent problem teeth & gums down the road that can lead to extractions.

Dental Cleaning/Extractions

  •  Full anesthesia, your pet will be under sedation at our safe surgery suite off site. Pick up and drop off transportation is provided by our staff in door to door concierge service for your convenience
  • Full ultrasonic cleaning and polishing. For animal teeth, getting under the gum and all surfaces of the teeth including those hard to get, inside surfaces and far back seated teeth is important. Mainly, only able to be done when fully sedated. Polishing is the final step to ensure the microscopic abrasions that have developed on the teeth, are smoothed out to prevent build up from reforming sooner.
  • Intravenous support is included with all dentals, which helps to maintain hydration, blood pressure and warmth during their procedure.
  • Complete vital monitoring during the whole duration of the procedure, to watch their heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, temperature and respiratory rate.
  • Pain management is of great importance to us, we also provide local anesthesia/nerve blocks to keep them comfortable once home if they've had extractions, and then continued oral pain medications for days following.
  • Extractions are done with skilled surgical care, and will be followed with pain medication and antibiotics. Sutures will be placed for proper wound healing.

Complete Mouth X-rays

  • Reveal hidden problems: Approximately 60% of a tooth's structure is below the gum line, making X-rays the only way to see issues like root damage or abscesses.
  • Diagnose deep-seated diseases: X-rays are essential for identifying advanced periodontal disease, which can cause pain and damage but may not be apparent from a visual exam alone.
  • Detect painful conditions: They help find conditions like tooth resorption in cats or root fractures in both dogs and cats that can cause significant chronic pain, even if the animal isn't showing obvious symptoms.
  • Identify developmental issues: X-rays can uncover unerupted or impacted teeth, cysts, or missing tooth roots that may not be visible externally, notes
  • Inform treatment plans: By providing a complete view, X-rays help veterinarians create the most effective treatment plan, such as determining if a root is completely gone (in the case of tooth resorption) or needs extraction.
  • Aid in early detection: They are critical for catching dental problems early, preventing them from progressing and causing more serious complications down the road.
  • Diagnose other abnormalities: X-rays are also used to identify oral tumors, jawbone loss, and other structural issues

Don't be fooled by anesthesia free dentals

Many mobile companies are advertising cheap "dental cleanings". These are anesthesia free dentals. Meaning, they are just getting the superficial easy to reach surfaces. They are not able to fully probe to check for problems under the gum line, which is where most problems start.  They are not able to xray and again 60% of the tooth is not visible so problems may be going unnoticed.

In most cases they can not properly clean those hard to reach back teeth, or inside surfaces. Many will use an ultrasonic scaler which thus in itself creates micro abrasions, which is corrected in a full sedated dental cleaning by a full polishing. If left with these micro scratches it actually creates places for plaque and tarter to build up faster
